A dye tracer is a safe fluorescent substance used in hydrology to track how water moves through groundwater, rivers, and engineered systems. It behaves like water and allows hidden flow paths to be detected.

In continuous tracer testing, a small amount of dye is injected into the system and monitored downstream using automatic fluorometer sensors. These devices record fluorescence in real time, often at minute-level resolution over long periods.

The resulting data reveals flow velocity, travel time, and hydraulic connections between different parts of the system, supporting groundwater and environmental investigations.
